Suzhou Indonesian Student Community

I'm an Indonesian student who's studying in China. At the very beginning, in 2005, it was the first year for the Indonesians came to Suzhou. There are 12 Indonesian people in their batch. The next year, another 16 students came, and my batch, 2007, we have 19 Indonesian students (it was more than 19, but three of us decided to move to another country). Actually, from the very beginning, we'd been dreaming of a community that can unite us, gain information for us, and even make connections with another Indonesians from another cities in China. Many other cities had already had their own community, and they could hold many events, they have their student activities, etc. But because there were still too few Indonesian students in Suzhou, we couldn't make one.

As the time went by, more and more Indonesian students came here. We have total 17 juniors, plus Indonesian students from another university (I'm studying at Soochow University, and the other one is Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University). Currently, the total of the Indonesian students in Suzhou is about 80 students.

Because the number of Indonesian students now is increasing, everybody was supporting to realize the dream: to make a community that can unite us and we can hold some events or student activities here. Before, we had nothing to do outside classes we had to attend. We wanted to have a campus life just like the other students or local students. So, we decided to make one.

Finally, a community named SISC (Suzhou Indonesian Student Community) was finally established on October 25, 2009, with me as the Vice President. This community was established in front of its members - the students - and also some teachers from both university and some parents. We have three visions:
1. To unite its members
2. To gain and share inspiration and information
3. To introduce Indonesian's culture to the world, particularly to people living in Suzhou, China.

We also have some programs, such as the student activities. We gather the students having the same hobbies or talent every week, so that we can share our talent to others. Those who have talent in some sports or art will teach those who are interested in that field. These activities are done every week. We also held two small events - Sport's Day and Culinary Day. On Sport's Day, it was a sports competition. We had soccer, volleyball and basketball competitions, inviting Indonesian students from Nanjing, the Pakistanis, Chinese and Phillipinos. And on the Culinary Day, we made some Indonesian food and introduced them to people from other countries. We let them try some of our traditional food and they love them :)

Those events were held to prepare our big event : The Indonesian Festival, which is going to be held on October 16, 2010. The concept of this event is "to the world we share". Since the Suzhou citizens and foreigners in Suzhou don't know much about Indonesia, because Indonesian people in Suzhou is not as many as in Shanghai or many other cities, we want to introduce our beloved country to them. There would be a cultural exhibiton, introducing almost everything about Indonesia, and also selling Indonesian merchandise and of course, Indonesian authentic food. We invite and welcome all people coming from different countries to come and join this big event.

  3. Hahaha..
Rasa nasionalisme km tinggi bgt yaa, salut deeh..

Kan aku ambil kedokteran, bkn bahasa ato bisnis gt. Trus aku kuliahnya pake inggris, bkn Mandarin, tp syarat kelulusannya tetep harus lulus HSK & Mandarinnya harus bagus soale kan harus komunikasi ma pasien di Rumah Sakit, la org2 sini kan rata2 ga bs bhs inggris, apalg yg tua2, ngomong普通话aja belepotaan, haiiss >.<
Rata2 di sini sih bukan beasiswa, baik yg jurusan aku maupun jurusan2 lain..

Ayoo2, seru lohh kuliah di sini, gain banyak bgtt terutama pelajaran hidupnyaa =)

bener-bener lagi yang ngrasain yg namanya bergumul hohohoh...

I'll pray for you, semoga semua lancar2 yaa, God will answer your prayer.. Kalo km beneran jd ke Zhongguo kan sp tauu kita bs ketemuan di sini, either km yg ksini ato aku yg ke kota tempat km sekolah nanti, hihihi *berangan2* wkwkwk..

    AMIN! ;)

nti kalo kamu mo balik indo kontak2 ae yaa hehehe. terus janjian ketemuan di Sby ato di Bandung gitu nek balik. Eh kamu seneng masak juga to? hahah samaaaa tapi aku jarang masak di kos...biasa lah

  7. eh nti kalo aku dah ke sana pokoke kita dolan2 bareng wihiiiii ^^

Bau minyaknya itu lhoo, ga ilang ampe berhari2 >.<
